Comcast has announced its second group of companies for its sports technology accelerator, selecting 10 startups from more than 800 contenders in 44 countries. The main areas of interest are media and entertainment, the interaction of fans and players, the performance of athletes and players, the success of the team and coach, innovation in places and activities, fantasy sports and betting, e-sports and sports.
This year Comcast NBCUniversal SportsTech Acceleratorbased on Boomtown, is a 12-week hybrid program running at the Corporate Innovation Center at Truist Atlanta Park. The first class has completed a fully virtual program, but its graduates have already started 29 pilots and partnered with five commercial deals.
Jenna Curat, head of Comcast NBCU SportsTechdescribed this year’s class as slightly more developed than startups in first round. The selection criteria revolved around “three main areas of value, the first being the suitability of the partner,” says Kurat. “Next, we really deliberately speculated about the direct visibility of the pilots and the proofs of the concepts that should ideally be in the program to really test and validate the technology, to see if it is strategically appropriate for the organization. And then the latter is just right for the founders – do we really believe it’s a team that can do that? ”
PGA and WWE tour joined as advisors along with existing partners: NBC Sports, Sky Sports, GOLF, Comcast Spectacor, NASCAR and three U.S. Olympic sports organizations (US Ski & Snowboard, USA Cycling and USA Swimming). At the heart of this year’s accelerator is a personal program called Project Three Count, which will include a curriculum involving company founders and business consultants – along with tours of three partner sporting events as part of a ride in Texas: NASCAR COTA Race, Valera Texas Open PGA Tour and WWE WrestleMania 38.
Each of the 10 companies is assigned a chief advisor in the program, but there will be partner engagement, says Boomtown CEO Chris Treger, “accelerating the growth of these companies because they can conduct these tests using multiple parts of the ecosystem simultaneously.”

LetzChatNBC Sports Next (golf): LetzChat translates customer engagement–including subtitles, text messages, phone calls, chat support and websites–in the language of the spectator, which provides opportunities to improve the viewing of the sport.
Local sports networkNBC Sports Next (SportsEngine): The Local Sports Network is a digital community that strengthens connections between sports enthusiasts, high schools and athletes.
MeetleteNASCAR: Meetlete is a platform for fan participation that allows fans to experience a 4-minute meeting and-greet with their favorite athletes.
