Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas – (BUSINESS WIRE) — Mouser Electronics, Inc., the industry’s leading distributor for new product introduction (NPI) with the widest selection of semiconductors and electronic components ™, continues to invest in modern automation at its global distribution center to increase order processing, accuracy and speed, which helps customers further reduce time to market.
This spring, 2022, Mouser will install 120 vertical lifting modules (VLMs), the largest VLM installation in the world. VLMs are essentially giant vertical filing cabinets, complete with shelves and an automated hood for delivering components to an employee’s workplace. This increases efficiency and space and can reduce employee walking time by 45% or more.
In addition to the massive VML installation, the Mouser distribution center has several Ultipack and I-Pack machines – a sophisticated automated system for sealing and marking shipments that can handle up to 14 orders per minute – as well as an OPEX Perfect Pick for consolidation and AutoStore.
“Enabling state-of-the-art distribution center automation helps us achieve our goal of providing exceptional customer service,” says Pete Shop, senior vice president of business operations at Mouser Electronics. “The tools and systems we’ve introduced offer another way we can help reduce our customers’ time to market.”
Mouser’s huge global distribution center, located on the 78-acre campus of its corporate headquarters in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, handles a huge stock of more than 1 million unique SKUs for products from more than 1,200 manufacturing brands. By processing tens of thousands of orders weekly – most within 15 minutes – and maintaining a strong commitment to customer service, Mouser employees are very successful with technological advances.
Although the application of the latest automation acts primarily as a means of improving efficiency, performance, accuracy and speed, the systems also provide more robust operations and increase customer satisfaction.
