Keysight Technologies partners with Samsung to accelerate development of 6G technology

Keysight Technologies has announced that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samsung Research to advance research and development of 6G, the next generation of wireless communications.

Keysight has teamed up with Samsung, a pioneer in delivering end-to-end solutions for wireless infrastructure and mobile devices across generations, to support the 6G vision of a hyperconnected world. It is expected that 6G will be built on technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), sensing, digital twins, time-sensitive network (TSN) and holographic communications. The two companies will jointly develop 6G wireless testing and verification technologies.

“Keysight is pleased to expand its existing partnership with Samsung, which has led to a number of important advances in the creation of the new 5G (NR) radio as a sustainable technology,” said Giampaolo Tardioli, vice president of network infrastructure for Keysight. “6G is expected to underpin a wireless network that uses heterogeneous networks and convergence of communications and computing. Establishing a 6G partnership with Samsung allows Keysight to improve our software solutions for testing, which are crucial in the development of differentiated 6G products.

The collaboration will accelerate the development of aerial intelligence-enabled air interfaces that use multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) technology. Such terrestrial interfaces support the deployment of energy-efficient and ultra-dense networks capable of providing ultra-low latency and wireless data transmission in terabites.

“Signing this memorandum of understanding with Keysight will significantly expand Samsung 6G’s strategy of combining the company’s expertise in communications technology with software capabilities and artificial intelligence,” said Sunhyong Choi, executive vice president of Samsung Research. “Joining forces with Keysight allows Samsung to influence the future, using 6G to improve people’s communications, health and safety.”

Keysight has the underlying technology and key building blocks needed to make 6G a reality. This includes emulation of network, channel and user equipment (UE), source and analysis of signals in mmWave and subhertz (THz), as well as emulation of high-speed Ethernet network and testing of data center connections.

Keysight’s built-in tools for testing software and hardware for end-to-end compliance, compatibility, performance and security testing allow Samsung to accurately and holistically explore the boundaries of designs used for future 6G usage options.
