National leaders of education: a guide for potential applicants

Review

The goal of the National Education Leader (NLE) The program is to provide high quality support to improve schools in low-performing schools.

In 2020 NLE the advisory group made a number of recommendations regarding the future of the program.

These included the selection of a new, smaller, high-quality NLE staff, supported by a professional development proposal. As a result, for the 2022-2023 academic year, we will recruit new NBA staff.

All current NLE accreditation will end at the end of the 2021-2022 academic year.

The new staff of NLEs will consist of principals with experience turning schools, which can provide additional capacity for school improvement.

How to apply

We encourage all eligible principals who have a strong reputation for turning in schools to apply online to become NLE.

To be eligible to apply, you must be named in the Ofsted report (since September 2005) as the school principal, who:

  • received an improved Ofsted rating from Requires Improvement (RI) to Excellent or From inadequate to good / excellent and was in office for at least a year before an inspection that showed improvement. (If you left school, the check should be within 1 year after you leave).

In addition, you should:

  • there were no Ofsted inspections, which led to the refusal RI or Inadequate during work (except first year) or for 3 years after graduation

In exceptional cases where a potential candidate does not meet the eligibility criteria but can demonstrate very strong results of improvement in the school during the expression of interest, they will be considered for the transition to the full application stage.

The application process will be divided into 2 stages:

  • Stage 1 – expression of interest
  • Stage 2 – If successful in Stage 1, candidates will be invited to submit an online application containing questions based on experience and skills

The expression of interest opens on February 10 and closes on March 6, 2022.

The online phase 2 application will be available from mid-March and will close on April 24, 2022. If your application is successful, you will receive a notification by June 30, 2022.

Leaders of sponsorship trusts do not need to apply to become NLEs as they continue to be able to be equal and support improvement through the Trust Offer and School Improvement.
