University of New England Online launches new educational leadership Master’s degree

The University of New England is pleased to announce a new 30-credit online Master of Science in Education – a degree in educational leadership that prepares teachers with fundamental knowledge to pursue a career as an assistant principal or principal and is approved the 040 Building Administrator approval program in Maine. The MSEd program in Educational Leadership is aligned with Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) and provides a solid foundation of educational leadership theory, principles, and practices such as school finance, special education law, school-community relationships, and more.

Who should receive a master’s degree in educational leadership?

This educational leadership program is ideal for certified teachers with a bachelor’s degree who want to impact their school and move to a more formal leadership role of department head, assistant principal, or principal.

Although teacher leaders may not yet be ready to leave the classroom, they will have the skills needed for leadership when it comes time in their careers to take a position of greater responsibility.

What if a certified teacher already has a master’s degree?

UNE Online also offers building administrator certification at the master’s level through our 30-credit advanced training certificate in the Advanced Educational Leadership program, which also leads to the approval of Building Administrator 040 in Maine.

How long will it take to get this degree and when can I get started?

The MSEd in Educational Leadership is a master’s degree that can be obtained in less than two years. Applicants for this degree must have a bachelor’s degree or higher obtained from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or its equivalent.

Students may also transfer up to three graduate courses with 3 credits that have been completed at a regionally accredited institution within five years of application and completed with a grade of “B” or better. The courses transferred must be equivalent to one of the required courses of the program.

NECHE regional accreditation

The MSEd program in Educational Leadership along with the entire University of New England is NECHE regionally accredited. Regional accreditation is the gold standard among higher education institutions. A school with regional accreditation has proven to the accreditation body that it provides quality education.
