Florida State University awarded $27M federal education research laboratory

The Florida Center for Reading Studies (FCRR) at the University of Florida has won a five-year, $ 27 million contract to run the Regional Education Laboratory (REL) in the southeastern United States.

The REL program includes 10 regional laboratories funded through the Institute of Educational Sciences (IES) of the US Department of Education. The labs are designed to bridge the gap between faculty and policymakers by providing research-based strategies to improve learning outcomes for K-12 students.

REL Southeast is run by Nicole Patan Terry, Professor of Education Olivier and Manuel Bordas at the School of Teacher Education and Director of the Florida Center for Reading Studies.

REL Southeast has been located at FSU since 2012. This new $ 27 million award ensures that FSU will remain a national leader in educational research and enables REL faculty and staff to continue rigorous and robust research, innovation, and collaboration, improving learning outcomes and achievement. .

REL works in partnership with educators and education stakeholders to link research, policy and practice in education. REL conducts applied research in partnership with stakeholders to meet local and regional needs; provide training, instruction and technical support for the application of research to improve education; and widely disseminate the results of high-quality research.

In addition to informing policy and practice through research and large-scale research, REL Southeast turns its findings into effective recommendations for educators.
